Casting is complete for the Manhattan Theatre Club’s upcoming Broadway production of Wit. As previously announced, Tony and Emmy winner Cynthia Nixon will star as professor Vivian Bearing in the first Broadway production of Margaret Edson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Directed by MTC artistic director Lynne Meadow, Wit will begin performances at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on January 5, 2012.
Joining Nixon are Pun Bandu as Technician, Suzanne Bertish as E.M. Ashford, Michael Countryman as Harvey Kelekian/Mr. Bearing, Jessica Dickey as Technician, Chiké Johnson as Technician, Greg Keller as Jason Posner, Carra Patterson as Susie Monahan and Zachary Spicer as Technician.
Exquisitely written, affecting and often humorous, WIT follows a brilliant and exacting poetry professor (Nixon) as she undergoes experimental treatment for cancer. A scholar who devoted her life to academia, she must now face the irony and injustice of becoming the subject of research.
The creative team includes Santo Loquasto (scenic design), Jennifer von Mayrhauser (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design) and Jill BC Du Boff (sound design).
Tickets are on sale now for performances through March 11, 2012.
